President John Dramani Mahama has paid glowing tribute to the late Pope Francis, describing him as a “good man” who was “personable and humane, with a good soul.”

Mahama penned the heartfelt message on Friday, April 25, in the book of condolence opened at the Apostolic Nunciature in Accra.

The gesture was in honour of the late pontiff, whose death was announced on Monday, April 21, by the Vatican.

Pope Francis, known for his humility and strong advocacy for peace, social justice, and interfaith unity, died at the age of 88. His burial is scheduled to take place at the Vatican on Saturday, April 26.

In memory of Pope Francis, a solemn mass was held with the presence of a government delegation, led by Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa and joined by religious leaders from various Christian denominations, including a representative of the National Chief Imam at the Holy Spirit Cathedral in Accra on Friday, April 25.
