In the lead-up to the GAVI High-Level Pledging Summit in Brussels, President John Dramani Mahama has held key bilateral discussions with influential global health leaders, including Bill Gates, Chair of the Gates Foundation, and José Manuel Barroso, Chair of the Gavi Vaccine Alliance Board.

During a meeting with Mr Gates, President Mahama expressed appreciation for the Gates Foundation’s long-standing philanthropic efforts in Ghana and its critical support for the Gavi Vaccine Alliance.

The two discussed Ghana’s ongoing health reforms, focusing on the Free Primary Healthcare Programme, the achievements of the newly established National Vaccine Institute, and the positive effects of lifting the cap on the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIS).

President Mahama also held talks with Mr José Manuel Barroso, who commended the President’s unwavering backing of Gavi’s global vaccine funding efforts.

Mr Barroso noted the importance of President Mahama’s continued leadership and advocacy, particularly during the pledging summit.

Both meetings reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to strengthening healthcare delivery and showcased the country’s role as a strong partner in the global effort to expand vaccine access and improve public health outcomes.
