President John Dramani Mahama has directed that all appointees who failed to comply with the directive to declare their assets by the March 31, 2025, deadline are to forfeit three months of their salaries, which will be paid into the Mahama Cares initiative, a medical trust fund.

According to the President, any appointee who fails to comply with this new directive will face severe sanctions, including automatic dismissal from their position by the close of day on May 7, 2025.

The president made this known while addressing his appointees at the Jubilee House during the unveiling of the Code of Conduct on May 5, 2025.

“On February 18, 2025, I set a deadline of March 31, 2025, for all appointees who have taken office or been nominated at the time to declare their assets. An update provided by the Auditor-General to my office indicates that some of you failed to meet the deadline.

“All those who were appointed or nominated before March 31, 2025, and failed to meet the deadline are to forfeit 3 months of salary to be donated to the Ghana Medical Trust Fund named after me, Mahama Cares. If by close of day May 7, 2025, any of you still fails to declare your assets count yourself automatically dismissed,” he said.

The President emphasised the critical importance of asset declaration by his appointees, describing it as a pivotal measure in the fight against corruption.

He noted that this requirement is essential to ensuring transparency and accountability, and serves as a safeguard against the abuse of public office.

“The asset declaration regime is an important mechanism to check corruption and abuse of office and must be respected by all,” he added.
