President John Dramani Mahama has nominated 40 individuals to serve as District Chief Executives (DCEs) in various districts across the Ashanti Region, pending approval by their respective Assemblies.
The nominations were made in line with Article 243(1) of Ghana’s 1992 Constitution and Section 20(1) of the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936), which empower the President to appoint DCEs in consultation with local assemblies.
The announcement was conveyed in a letter dated May 6, 2025, signed by the Secretary to the President, Dr. Callistus Mahama, and the Minister for Local Government, Ahmed Ibrahim.
Among the nominees are Ibrahim Yamba Nelson Issaka for Ahafo Ano South East District, Benjamin Marfo for Amansie South, and Frank Owusu Amoah for Offinso South. Other notable names include Samuel Somuah for Sekyere Central, Joseph Amankwa for Kwabre East, and Ben Abdallah Alhassan for Asokore Mampong.
The nominees are expected to undergo vetting and secure a two-thirds majority endorsement from their Assemblies before assuming office. Their appointments form part of the government’s effort to strengthen local governance and accelerate development at the district level.
