President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to fast-tracking the development of Dagbon and the wider Northern Region, declaring the area’s transformation a matter of national urgency.
The President made the pledge during a high-level visit from a delegation led by Yaa-Naa Abukari II, who paid a courtesy call to congratulate him on his recent electoral victory.
In welcoming the delegation, President Mahama expressed sincere gratitude for the show of support and reaffirmed his determination to partner with traditional leaders to bring about real change.
He assured the Yaa-Naa that his administration is focused on delivering meaningful development through targeted policies and strategic investments that will uplift the living conditions of the people.
“In healthcare,” President Mahama noted, “the Northern Region is receiving renewed attention under the Savannah Health Investment Plan.”
He detailed active rehabilitation efforts at the Yendi Municipal Hospital and the deployment of more community health workers to neglected rural areas, moves he said would improve access and quality of healthcare services across the region.
On the infrastructure front, the President cited extensive work under the Northern Roads Improvement Corridor, a key component of his development agenda. Upgrades are ongoing on the Tamale–Yendi–Katale road, alongside critical feeder roads linking agricultural communities in Sang, Saboba, and Bumbuna.
He also announced a long-anticipated breakthrough on the Eastern Corridor Road Project, which has faced years of delay.
Under his government’s Big Push Initiative, “critical works on the Oti Damanko–Nkwanta, Nkwanta–Dodi Pepesu, and Nakpanduri–Kulungugu stretches” will finally move forward. Mahama emphasized that these road improvements will enhance regional connectivity and unlock the economic potential of the northern zone.
Delivering remarks on behalf of Yaa-Naa Abukari II, the Paramount Chief of Zangbalinga, Naa Bapir Zangbaling-Naa Dr. Jacob Yakubu Mahama, praised the President’s renewed focus on Dagbon.
He conveyed the Yaa-Naa’s “deep appreciation to the President for his renewed focus on Dagbon’s development,” and assured him of the full backing of traditional authorities.
The Yaa-Naa, through his representative, pledged unwavering support for the success of government-led initiatives across the Northern Region, signaling a unified front between state and chieftaincy in accelerating growth.
