Suspended Chief Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Sackey Torkornoo
The Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has stated that President John Dramani Mahama will have no objection to reinstating suspended Chief Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Sackey Torkornoo, should she be cleared of all allegations levelled against her.
Speaking in an interview on Oyerepa TV on June 27, 2025, Kwakye Ofosu emphasised that the matter involving the suspended Chief Justice is being handled in accordance with constitutional provisions and that President Mahama will abide by the outcomes of due process.
“President Mahama has no personal interest in this matter and will act based solely on the recommendations of the Council of State and the requirements of the Constitution,” he clarified.
Chief Justice Torkornoo was recently suspended following three petitions that accused her of misconduct and abuse of office.
A special investigative committee has since been set up by the president to probe the claims.
According to Kwakye Ofosu, the suspended Chief Justice will have the opportunity to defend herself during the inquiry.
“If she is able to demonstrate that the allegations are baseless, she will be reinstated. There will be no obstacles to her continuing in her role if she is vindicated,” he said.
Meanwhile, Justice Torkornoo has described the petition against her as politically motivated, accusing the state of targeting her unfairly.
