Prosecution of suspects in NSS ghost names, sky train scandals to begin next week — AG

The Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Dr Dominic Ayine, says his office will next week begin the prosecution of key suspects involved in the ghost names scandal at the National Service Scheme (NSS) and the controversial Accra Sky Train project.

Addressing journalists at a press briefing in Accra on Wednesday, April 30, Dr Ayine said investigations have been concluded in both matters and charges will be filed in the coming days.

On the Accra Sky Train project, Dr Ayine said investigations revealed that $2 million was paid to a company without board approval by the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund.

The former CEO, Solomon Asamoah, and former Board Chairman, Professor Ameyaw Ekumfi, are to be charged next week.

“Some of the board members have offered to testify as witnesses for the prosecution. I am considering their offer,” he revealed.

He urged whistleblowers with credible information on corruption to step forward as he is willing to offer deals in exchange for testimony.

Dr Ayine also dismissed claims that he had jumped the gun in previous briefings by prejudging suspects, stating that his comments have always respected the presumption of innocence.

“I said nothing at the March press conference to suggest the accused were guilty. But I remain confident based on the evidence gathered by EOCO and my team that we will secure convictions,” he said.
