Member of Parliament for Pru East Constituency, Emmanuel Kofi Boam
The Member of Parliament for Pru East Constituency, Emmanuel Kofi Boam, has expressed hope that the government, through the Ministry of Works, Housing, and Water Resources, will provide safe and sustainable water to the people of Parambo-Sawaba in the shortest possible time.
The MP expressed his optimism after the sector minister, Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, responded to his urgent question during parliamentary proceedings on Thursday, July 17, 2025, about measures being taken by the ministry to address the over two-decade-old challenge confronting the people in the immediate term.
“It basically has to do with Parambo-Sawaba, one of the largest communities in the Pru East Constituency. As a matter of fact, this community has been plagued with numerous water-related issues, specifically having to share common water sources with animals. It is quite intriguing to see people drinking from the same area as animals, which prompted me to ask the minister when they will gain access to drinkable and sustainable water—water that could be lasting. We know that during the rainy season, they collect natural rainwater, but after that period, they are unable to access any other water source. That is why I asked the question,” he stated.
In response to the MP, the minister revealed government plans to embark on a major rehabilitation project to revamp the Parambo-Sawaba water project within the medium term as part of the Big Push project. He stated that the project, from commencement to completion, will take 18 calendar months, pending the ability to secure the necessary funding.
He noted that an alternative solution of using groundwater to serve the communities is not feasible due to significant challenges, such as high salinity levels, possible bacterial contamination, and low borehole yields.
Emphasizing the potential of the project, the MP expressed his hope for its completion in the immediate term to alleviate the plight of his people.
“It is going to be a significant project, but all that I pray is that we will be able to get this done in the shortest possible time, as the minister said, in the medium term,” he said.
