Put your donation in an envelope – Dafeamekpor advises politicians

Member of Parliament for South Dayi, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor has advised his colleague politicians to be sensitive to public perception about their conduct in public.

He said although their constituents demand so much from them, they way and manner these demands are met, especially in public, is important.

“We get requests for assistance in many forms. We pay school fees, hospital bills, light bills, every weekend, you have to attend many funerals and you can’t leave without giving anything. We must be guided as public servants and as NDC we must consciously pay attention these matters and even if you want to make a donation, you must wrap it or envelope it,” he cautioned on TV3’s KeyPoints on May 17.

His comment is in respect of the controversy surrounding the gifting of ‘fuel money’ by the Chief Executive Officer of the Gold Board (Goldbod), Sammy Gyamfi to a controversial prophetess, Nana Agradaa.

A video on the incident stirred backlash against Sammy Gyamfi while many called on the President to sanction him for such conduct as it is believed to have breached the Code of Conduct for state appointees.

In less than 24 hours since the video went viral, Sammy Gyamfi publicly apologised for his conduct and said his actions were a “private act of kindness” which was not intended to be made public.

He was subsequently pardoned by the President and cautioned to be of good behaviour with no further punitive action taken against him.

Mr Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor commended President Mahama for his decision not to sanction Sammy Gyamfi.

He urged his party’s supporters to take heart as the issue will serve as a guide to all public servants.

“Sometimes we fall into this judgement as public officers. So, we all have to be careful. It is a learning curve for all of us, we are still young in national politics and it’s a guide for us. So I told Sammy that the pardon has come, and I want to commend His Excellency for that because I don’t know how we would all feel if he were to have been suspended or dismissed,” Dafeamekpor noted.
