Barcelona’s Brazilian sensation Raphinha continues to dazzle this season across all competition. The Barcelona star matched Cristiano Ronaldo’s remarkable Champions League goal contributions of 21 with his second-half goal against Inter Milan on Tuesday in the Champions League semis second leg at the San Siro.
Although Barcelona’s journey ended due to a late extra time goal, Raphinha’s tally stands at 21 contributions (13 goals and 8 assists) in the 2024-25 campaign, mirroring Cristiano Ronaldo’s record with Real Madrid in the 2013-14 season.
Ronaldo achieved his 21 contributions in 11 games, whereas Raphinha reached this milestone in 14 matches. Despite the heartbreak, Raphinha’s performance has been remarkable.
Barcelona’s loss is their eighth semi-final exit in the Champions League, and they have failed to progress to the final in four of their last five semi-final appearances.
While Raphinha won’t have another chance to surpass Ronaldo’s record this season, his campaign has been historic, putting him in contention for the Ballon d’Or.
He also set records for most goal contributions by a Barcelona player and a Brazilian player in a single season.
Reacting to the loss on social media, the former Leeds United talisman wrote: “We will come back stronger… Thanks to everyone’s support culers … we are still together… “The season ain’t over yet. Every day that passes, I’m more proud to wear these colours, proud of this team. Long live Barça always.”
Raphinha’s goal marked his 32nd of the season as Barcelona have already secured the Copa del Rey and Spanish Super Cup.
With their Champions League exit, focus shifts to La Liga and the upcoming El Clasico. A win over Real Madrid would give them an seven-point lead with just three games remaining.
