Respect the judiciary if you want peace to govern – NPP warns NDC

The National Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Henry Nana Boakye, has issued a stern warning to the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), urging them to refrain from what he described as persistent attacks on the judiciary if they intend to enjoy the peace necessary to govern effectively.

In an interview on Joy FM’s Top Story on Monday, May 5, he expressed concern over what he sees as an emerging pattern of interference and undue criticism aimed at the judicial arm of government under the NDC administration.

According to him, with the executive and legislative branches already under the NDC’s control, any attempts to influence the judiciary would amount to a dangerous overreach and a direct threat to Ghana’s democracy.

“If that is how they [NDC] want to govern—by attacking the judiciary while holding overwhelming power in the executive and legislature, then they must be reminded that this is an attack on democracy. And we will not allow it. Trust me!” he declared.

“If they [NDC] want peace to execute their mandate, they should not, and I repeat, they should sponsor any attack on the Judiciary, he warned.

The NPP organizer accused the NDC of fostering a hostile environment toward the judicial system just four months into office, despite receiving a strong mandate from the people.

He noted that the recent crowd at the NPP-led demonstration against the suspension of the Chief Justice is a sign that Ghanaians are already growing frustrated with the new administration.

“Barely five months in, massive crowds are expressing disappointment. If the NDC continues down this path, we will respond accordingly. If they truly want the peace of mind to govern, they must abandon any sinister motives toward the judiciary,” Nana Boakye insisted.

He emphasised that undermining judicial independence is equivalent to attacking the very foundation of democratic governance, and signaled that the NPP will soon unveil a series of events to respond to the growing concerns.
