Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu
The Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has instructed the Ghana Education Service (GES) and the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) to take immediate steps to revert the nation’s academic calendar to its pre-COVID-19 structure.
“Restore pre-COVID academic calendar,” the Minister directed, urging both institutions to collaborate swiftly in adjusting timelines for the school year and national examinations.
The directive comes as part of efforts to realign Ghana’s academic schedule, which was significantly disrupted during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The temporary calendar adjustments implemented during the health crisis led to shifts in teaching schedules, exam periods, and vacation timelines.
According to the Minister, returning to the original calendar will bring much-needed consistency and stability to the education system, helping students, teachers, and parents to better plan for the academic year.
The Ministry of Education is expected to work closely with all relevant stakeholders to ensure a smooth transition and to communicate the revised calendar in due course.
