The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has strongly advised former Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta to physically appear before the OSP for questioning with respect to some cases being investigated.

At a press briefing on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, the Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng revealed that Ofori-Atta had repeatedly refused to honour invitations for questioning regarding ongoing investigations in which he is a suspect.

Kissi Agyebeng, therefore cautioned Ofori-Atta: “You can either return to the jurisdiction voluntarily or the OSP will enforce your return.”

The Special Prosecutor further declared the former Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta a fugitive and placed him on its wanted list.

“Consequently, the OSP declares Kenneth Nana Yaw Ofori-Atta a wanted person. He is a fugitive from the law,” Agyebeng announced.

Ken Ofori-Atta is wanted by the OSP for cases being investigated including; loss reduction contract between ECG and Beijing Jao, procurement over National Cathedral, contracts awarded by Health Ministry to Service Ghana Auto Limited/Ambulances and the SML-GRA deal.

The OSP further emphasized that it would take all necessary measures to compel the former minister to appear and answer questions related to the investigations.

According to Agyebeng, Ofori-Atta’s legal team has informed the OSP that he is indefinitely out of the country for medical reasons.

“Subsequently by communication dated February 10, 2025, Mr. Ofori-Atta’s lawyers transmitted to the OSP a generic letter procured by Mr. Ofori-Atta purporting to be from a doctor in a foreign jurisdiction stating that Mr. Ofori-Atta had been sick and evaluated and that he had been undergoing further testing and management and possible further intervention at an indicated future time and further that his medical condition necessitates that he will stay and follow up on his appointments,” he stated.

However, the Special Prosecutor’s Office appears unconvinced and is determined to ensure his return to face questioning.
