The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovation, Samuel Nartey George, has called on the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and the Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) to take action on a complaint he lodged regarding a violent incident that occurred during the 2019 Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election.

In a post shared on social media on July 11, 2025, he reminded the IGP and CID of his long-standing expectation for justice.

“Dear IGP of the @GhPoliceService and DG of the CID @ciau_pid. I am still waiting for the Police to act on my complaint from Ayawaso West Wuogon. It must be treated as a first-come, first-served basis,” he noted.

Samuel Nartey George cautioned that those who defended the violence in 2019 have no moral right to speak now, adding that the current political chaos is a consequence of past actions.

“I have patiently waited since 2019 for justice to be served. Let no one who justified the 2019 incident dare try to speak today. You sowed the wind and you have reaped the whirlwind,” he stated.

He further emphasised that this was just the beginning of his pursuit of justice and accountability.

“What was sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander. I have not started yet. This is just the beginning. We would all live in Ghana. One love,” he added.

The Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election was marred by violence and chaos, during which Sam George was physically assaulted. The violence also led to the shooting of individuals believed to be members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Sam George’s comments follow violent scenes that erupted at the Methodist Church polling station in the Ablekuma North Constituency on July 11, 2025, where former Awutu Senya East MP, Mavis Hawa Koomson, was reportedly assaulted.

Tensions further escalated during the parliamentary rerun when a group of unidentified macho men stormed St. Peter’s Polling Station, disrupting the electoral process and attacking political figures and journalists.

Video footage showed some of the thugs striking Hawa Koomson, causing her to fall. The videos then captured the former MP being dragged while she was still on the ground.

The entire polling station descended into chaos, with men in plain clothing seen clashing with one another.

Some police officers at the scene, along with individuals believed to be members of the former MP’s security detail, managed to rescue and whisk her away from the area.
