Former Chief Executive Officer of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, has accused Communications Minister Sam George of bias in the dismissal of staff from agencies under the ministry.
According to him, while several employees were sacked for allegedly being recruited in violation of due process, NDC sympathizers in the same category were spared.
“Appointments of those perceived to be sympathetic to the NDC from this group were not terminated,” he claimed.
In a social media post on Tuesday, March 25, Mr. Ofosu Nkansah dismissed allegations of irregular recruitment, stating that the process followed due procedure.
“A state agency under the Ministry of Communications, GIFEC, started a competitive recruitment process in March 2024 by advertising in national newspapers. The agency conducted interviews chaired by the Public Services Commission (PSC) with representatives from both the board and ministry on the panel.
“Those who passed the interview were hired and started work in June. They went through six months of probation and were made permanent in December,” he wrote.
His claims follow Sam George’s justification for an ongoing staff rationalization exercise at the ministry.
The Ningo-Prampram MP had expressed concern over the recruitment of 600 staff members after December 7, 2024, prompting him to initiate a cleanup to enhance efficiency.
Speaking to the media on Tuesday, March 25, he revealed that he had authorized the termination of nearly 100 staff members at Ghana Post, with plans to continue the exercise.
“People have raised questions about the ongoing staff rationalization at the ministry. But if you take over a ministry with 3,117 staff, including those in its agencies, and realize that almost 600 of them were recruited after December 7, you cannot expect me to inherit such a mess and continue with it. So, the rationalization is ongoing.
“Today, I have authorized the termination of a few more at Ghana Post—almost 100 staff members hired after December 7. We will continue this rationalization. I will clean up the ministry, make sure it is lean and efficient, and ensure it carries out its work properly,” the minister stated.
