Correspondence from Ashanti Region

Barima Freduah Agyemang Ababio, the chief of Kenyase in the Kwabre East Municipality, has urged journalists to unite and plan proactively for their future, emphasizing the importance of avoiding hardship and poverty in retirement.

The Kenyasehene issued the call while chairing the Thanksgiving & Get-together ceremony of the Ashanti Regional Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) held at the Longford Event Centre in Kwadaso, Kumasi. He expressed concern over the potential for journalists, who play a vital role in educating, entertaining, holding leadership accountable, and ensuring community development, to face financial difficulties later in life.

“It is very sad that journalists who educate, entertain, hold leadership to account, and ensure the development of the country and various communities, will end up in poverty and hardship during their old age,” Barima Ababio stated. He stressed that the time has come for journalists to unite and begin carefully planning for their future financial security.

“You are the eyes and key stakeholders of society and its well-being,” he said. “It is therefore very imperative that you consider uniting and also plan well for your future well-being. You don’t have to end up in an unattractive and tainted end. Your end must be very bright and encouraging to motivate others.”

He said, journalists should have their ends bright and not be poor during their retirement age.

He also encouraged journalists to maintain their dedication to good work and to prioritize their own well-being, just as they consistently advocate for the well-being of others.

Barima Ababio also commended Ashanti Region journalists for their dedication to the progress of Asanteman and Ghana as a whole.

In addition, he called on media practitioners in Ghana, particularly in the Ashanti Region, to exercise circumspection in their reporting and prioritize accuracy, emphasizing the crucial role of the media in national development and urging them to avoid sensationalism and the spread of misinformation.
