Semenyo maintains form as Kamaldeen bags first league goal

As the 2026 World Cup draws near, Ghanaian players abroad are making strong cases for inclusion in Otto Addo’s Black Stars squad.

The latest round of fixtures saw several Ghanaian players deliver impressive performances, scoring crucial goals and providing assists that helped their teams secure vital wins.

3Sports assesses how some of the Ghanaian players fared during the weekend matches.

Ernest Nuamah, Lyon

Ghanaian forward Ernest Nuamah put on an impressive display as Lyon took on Montpellier in Ligue 1 on Sunday. Nuamah scored a goal and provided an assist, capping off an excellent performance. This marks his third direct goal involvement in his last four Ligue 1 games for Lyon. The 22-year-old played the full 90 minutes, completing 18 passes and winning two fouls.

Antoine Semenyo, Bournemouth

Ghanaian international Antoine Semenyo has surpassed his highest tally for goals and assists in a Premier League campaign. With his assist against Southampton, Semenyo has now recorded 11 goal involvements (7 goals, 4 assists) in the 2024/25 season, eclipsing his previous best of 10 (8 goals, 2 assists) in the 2023/24 season. Semenyo’s impressive performances have been instrumental in Bournemouth’s success, with the team currently sitting in 5th position in the Premier League.

Tariq Lamptey, Chelsea

Ghanaian defender Tariq Lamptey achieved a significant milestone on Friday, making his 100th Premier League appearance against Chelsea. Lamptey’s defensive prowess was on full display as he helped his team secure a 3-0 win over Chelsea. His impressive performance was capped off by preventing Chelsea from recording a single shot on target.

Kamaldeen Sulemana, Southampton

Ghanaian winger Kamaldeen Sulemana marked his birthday in style, scoring his first Premier League goal of the season in Southampton’s 1-3 home loss to AFC Bournemouth. Despite the defeat, Sulemana’s performance was a highlight, showcasing his skill and potential.

Baba Abdul Rahman, PAOK FC

Ghanaian defender Baba Abdul Rahman played a crucial role in PAOK FC’s 7-0 thrashing of Lamia in the Greek Super League. Rahman provided two assists, helping his team secure a resounding win. The defender now has an impressive five goals and two assists for PAOK in the Greek Super League.

Eric Boakye,  Aris Limassol

Ghanaian midfielder Eric Boakye found the back of the net as Aris Limassol secured an emphatic 0-3 away win over Anorthosis. Boakye’s goal contributed to his team’s dominant performance. Alex Opoku Sarfo also made an appearance, coming on in the second half.
