The Central Regional Police Command has arrested seven individuals in connection with illegal mining activities at Abora, a community in the Upper Denkyira West District of the Central Region.

The suspects were apprehended during an intelligence-led operation and have been identified as Latif Abdul Gyimah, 55; Mohammed Bello, 44; George Azu, 52; Kingsley Owusu, 23; Sampson Afadzi, 45; Simon Atakpo, 21; and Andrews Otto, 26.

During the operation, police retrieved a cache of items believed to have been used in the illegal mining operation. The seized items include a single-barrel shotgun, two Mossberg 500A12GA pump-action shotguns with serial numbers T069032 and T075882, 26 live cartridges, two excavators, two Hyundai excavator monitors, three unregistered motorbikes, one unregistered Haojin tricycle, and a newly installed water pump machine.

The suspects are currently in police custody and assisting with ongoing investigations. Authorities have confirmed that efforts are underway to recover additional excavators believed to be hidden at the mining site. All exhibits are being held securely by the police.

The Central Regional Police Command has assured the public that it remains committed to clamping down on illegal mining and bringing perpetrators to justice.
