Skeletal remains of missing 85-year-old woman found in Dormaa West bush
The skeletal remains of 85-year-old Obaapanyin Adwoah Takyiwaa, popularly known as Adwoah Gonja, have been discovered in a bush at Camp 15, near Nkrankwanta in the Dormaa West District of the Bono Region.
The discovery was made on Thursday, 19 June 2025, by a group of hunters, more than three months after the elderly woman mysteriously went missing.
According to information gathered by Adom News, the hunters were led to the scene by their dog, whose persistent barking drew their attention while on a hunting expedition. They abandoned their hunt and reported the discovery to local opinion leaders.
Confirming the incident, the chief’s linguist, Nana Osei, said traditional authorities and police personnel visited the scene soon after being informed.
Libation was poured at the site per local customs, both to pray for the peaceful rest of the deceased should her death have been of natural causes, and to seek justice in the event of foul play.
“We poured libation to pray for her soul and also called on the gods to reveal the truth behind her death—whether natural or otherwise,” Nana Osei stated.
The police have since launched an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding her death.
