Member of Parliament for Effutu and Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has raised concerns over the creation of unauthorized social media accounts in his name.

According to the lawmaker, these fake accounts are being used to deceive unsuspecting individuals into making payments in exchange for favours.

In a social media post on Friday, February 24, Mr. Afenyo-Markin cautioned the public to be vigilant, emphasizing that he would never solicit money from anyone before offering assistance.

“It has come to my attention that certain individuals are creating fake social media accounts in my name with the intent to deceive and extort unsuspecting members of the public. I strongly advise the public to remain vigilant and to disregard any messages, requests, or solicitations from accounts falsely claiming to be me or associated with me,” his post read in part.

The Minority Leader continued, “I wish to officially state that I do 𝗻𝗼𝘁 operate any social media accounts aside from the following:

• 𝗙𝗮𝗰𝗲𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸: Hon. Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin – Facebook Link

• 𝗫 (formerly Twitter): Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin – X Link

• 𝗧𝗶𝗸𝗧𝗼𝗸: Osahen Alexander Afenyo-Markin – TikTok Link”

He stressed that any other accounts on platforms such as Facebook, LinkedIn, TikTok, Instagram, or any other social media site purporting to be him, or directing people to individuals supposedly close to him for assistance, are 𝗳𝗿𝗮𝘂𝗱𝘂𝗹𝗲𝗻𝘁 and should be ignored.
