The Sokode Senior High Technical School has been shut down following a violent clash between students and residents of the Sokode community.

The decision to close the school was made by the Volta Regional Security Council (REGSEC) on Sunday, February 23, 2025.

Reports indicate that on Friday, February 21, 2025, some students entered the community without permission and engaged in confrontations with local residents, resulting in one resident sustaining an injury.

On Sunday, February 23, 2025 a group of young people from the community stormed the school seeking revenge, leading to a confrontation between the student population of over one thousand and the smaller group of town residents.

Several community members sustained injuries, and some students were also hurt. Additionally, school property, including a vehicle belonging to a staff member, was damaged.

Regional Minister James Gunu deployed security officers to restore calm.
