Ghana’s Speaker of Parliament has approved a request from the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) to release two Members of Parliament, Mustapha Yussif and Kwame Asare Obeng (A Plus), for questioning.
A letter signed by the Clerk to Parliament, Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror, and addressed to the NIB’s Director General confirmed the Speaker’s decision.
While acknowledging the constitutional and security considerations surrounding such matters, Parliament has agreed to cooperate with the investigation. “Parliament, in principle, agrees to the request in the above matter,” the letter stated.
The two MPs have been instructed to meet with NIB officials on Monday, April 7, 2025, at 10:00 AM. The meeting will take place at the Sir Emmanuel Charles Quist Conference Room in Parliament, where they will undergo a preliminary interaction.
The Speaker also emphasized the importance of legal representation for the MPs during the process. “The Hon. Members will be requested to have their lawyers present at the interaction,” the letter noted.
