Spiritual Society distances itself from Gblorkope Shrine murder, pledges full cooperation with police

The Dodi Misorgbe Spiritual Worship Society has disassociated itself from a shrine implicated in the recent murder of Nelson Anyana, following the arrest of six suspects by the Adidome Police, the homicide unit and the National Intelligence Bureau.

In a statement signed by its General Secretary, Harrison Teye, the spiritual organisation condemned the killing, stating unequivocally that the organisation “does not condone or engage in ritualistic or diabolic acts under any guise.”

“We strongly condemn the act of taking human lives in the name of religion or any other pretext,” the statement said.

“As a recognised and registered spiritual society under the Companies Act 2019 (Act 992), we uphold peace, spiritual discipline, and legality.”

The police, during their preliminary investigations at a shrine in Gblorkope, discovered a banner bearing the name and insignia of the Dodi Misorgbe Spiritual Worship Society, raising public concern about the group’s possible involvement.

However, the society has clarified that the banner in question belonged to the late Hunor Ekpedzi Ashiagbor, formerly of the “Sun Shrine” at Kwamekrom.

According to society, the continued misuse of its name and symbols by unaffiliated persons has been a longstanding issue.

“This is a clear case of impersonation,” the statement noted. “We have procedures in place to track legitimate members and shrines, including unique names, banner allocations, and official certificates of recognition.”

The Dodi Misorgbe Spiritual Worship Society emphasised that it had become a target of impersonators seeking to exploit its reputation to defraud unsuspecting individuals.

It called on the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity linked to its name or shrines.

Meanwhile, the organisation assured the authorities and the public of its full cooperation in the ongoing investigations and urged the law enforcement agencies to ensure that the perpetrators were brought to justice.

The murder of Nelson Anyana has sent shockwaves through the Central Tongu District, with community members calling for swift action and tighter regulation of spiritual practices.

The Police are yet to release further details on the suspects arrested.

Investigations are continuing as more human remains were exhumed under some idols in Mafi Awakpedome and earlier at Mafi Gblorkope.
