Star Oil consolidates position as market leader, overtaking GOIL – NPA

Indigenous oil marketing firm, Star Oil has consolidated its position as industry leader in the sale of petroleum products in the country for the first five months of 2025. 

This was captured in the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Oil Marketing Companies Performance Statistics from January to May 2025 seen by JOYBUSINESS.

Star Oil has now overtaken state owned company, GOIL which over the years held the title as a leader, selling the highest volume of petroleum products in the country.

Over the years, Star Oil had in some cases emerged as the leading oil marketing firm in a few months.   But the company now appears to be consolidating its position in the industry.

Details of Market Performance

The Oil Marketing Companies Performance Statistics from January to May, showed that Star Oil sold a total of 336.3 million volumes of petroleum products.

Data on Star Oil’s half year performance seen by JOYBUSINESS showed that it sold 403 million litres of petroleum products.

Petrol – 193.9 million litres

Diesel – 139.3 million litres

LPG- 3.1 litres

Oil marketing firm GOIL sold a total 271.3 million litres from January to May this year

Petrol —   156 million litres

Diesel–111 million litres

LPG–   3.6 million litres
Another major oil marketing firm, Vivo Energy (Shell) sold 206 million litres of   petroleum products.

Petrol — 110 million litres

Diesel– 96 million liters

TotalEnergies sold a total of 149 million litres from January to May 2025.

Petrol — 71 million litres

Diesel — 75 million litres

LPG – 2.3  Million litres

Another indigenous oil marketing firm, Zen Petroleum in first five months of the year sold 82 million litres.

Petrol- – 46 Million litres

Diesel– 42 Million litres

The Oil Marketing Companies Performance Statistics from January to May showed that 2.4 billion liters of petroleum products was sold by more than 200 oil marketing firms in the country.

The data also showed some interesting shifts and movement. Moari Oil Company also come up strongly with 85 million litres of petroleum products.

Benab Oil also sold 77 million litres

Frimps Oil sold 56 million litres from January to May 2025.

 Financial Performance of Star Oil  

According to published financials for the first six months of the year, Star Oil paid GHC 1.1 billion to the government as taxes.

Number of direct employees stood at 2,546. The company has 240 fuel stations across the country.
