In a significant shift within the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Alhaji Sule Binchera, former constituency coordinator for Kennedy Agyapong in the Yendi Constituency, has officially joined the campaign of former Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia ahead of the party’s presidential elections in January.

The seasoned grassroots organiser, known for his longstanding loyalty to the Kennedy Agyapong camp, made the announcement on Wednesday, describing the move as a call to duty in the interest of party unity and Ghana’s future.

“This is not about personal loyalty. It’s about the survival and success of our great party,” Binchera said. “Bawumia has shown the readiness, maturity, and vision to lead the NPP into the next chapter. I am proud to be part of that journey.”

Binchera’s defection is seen as a strategic blow to Kennedy Agyapong’s internal campaign and a boost to Bawumia’s growing influence in the northern region.

His credibility and mobilising power in Yendi and its surrounding areas have made him a respected voice among the party’s rank and file.

Bawumia, who is currently touring parts of the Northern Region, expressed gratitude for the endorsement.

“We welcome Alhaji Binchera and commend his courage. This is the time to come together and consolidate our strength as a party. Breaking the eight is not a slogan—it’s a mission we must all take seriously.”

As the race for the NPP flagbearer intensifies, defections such as this may prove pivotal.

With Binchera now in his corner, Bawumia continues to cement his image not only as the establishment’s candidate, but as a bridge-builder capable of bringing all factions under one umbrella ahead of the 2025 general elections.
