The Sunyani Technical University (STU) recently played host to a transformative Enterprise Skills Development Training, a two-day workshop aimed at equipping Ghanaian youth with world-class entrepreneurial and innovation skills.

Organized by PAMEPI Women in Tech Ghana in partnership with Germany’s RWTH Aachen University, the event took place from March 10-11, 2025, in the Brong Ahafo Region, drawing students, educators, and industry experts together in a shared mission to bridge the gap between academia and enterprise.

The workshop was not just another training session, it was a revolution in enterprise development. It sought to tackle unemployment by equipping students with essential business skills, startup strategies, and innovative thinking required to thrive in today’s global economy.

“It was a two-day enterprise skill workshop for students at the Sunyani Technical University…first of all, we want to encourage the people over here to start their own businesses, so we talked about value addition… so, we are here to prepare the young students to start their own business and we are here to help coach them and also invite them to join our founder’s boot camp programme,” Marco Winter: Start-Up Coach RWTH Aachen University,” said.

Professor Ing. Kwadwo Adinkrah-Appiah, Vice-Chancellor of Sunyani Technical University emphasized the urgent need for innovation-driven education and the power of collaboration in fostering youth entrepreneurship.

Under the expert guidance of startup coaches Marco Winter and Philipp Tsekos from RWTH Aachen University, the students were equipped with entrepreneurial skills.

One of the standout moments of the workshop was the Innovation Showcase by Bosomtwe Girls STEM SHS. Their groundbreaking projects included:

• Smart Glasses for the Visually Impaired – A GPS-enabled device designed to assist visually challenged individuals with navigation.

• Self-Driven Vehicle Prototype – An AI-powered car designed and built by students, demonstrating the immense potential of young Ghanaian innovators.

These projects not only impressed attendees but also highlighted the critical role of fostering technological advancements in youth education.

Encouraging participants to continue their entrepreneurial journey, Ms. Alberta E. Ferguson, Programme Coordinator of PAMEPI Women in Tech Ghana, urged students to harness their ideas into tangible solutions for society. “This is more than a training,” said Mr. Yakubu Fuseini, Executive Director of PAMEPI Women in Tech Ghana.

“It’s a mission to create economic change, one skill, one startup, and one student at a time.” The event’s success was made possible by the exceptional support of RWTH Aachen University, whose commitment to youth entrepreneurship and mentorship continues to create a lasting impact beyond borders.

Additionally, PAMEPI Women in Tech Ghana acknowledged the ongoing support from Ghana’s Ministry of Education, both past and present ministers, who have consistently backed initiatives aimed at empowering youth through innovation and skills development.
