In the heart of Ghana’s North East Region, a powerful movement is breaking the chains of silence.
The Silence No More campaign, spearheaded by Inspire Her Ghana and funded by the African Women’s Development Fund (AWDF), is igniting hope and resilience across the Mamprugu Moagduri and West Mamprusi Districts.
This transformative initiative is not just a project—it’s a lifeline for over 500 adolescent girls, women, survivors of sexual violence, and girls with disabilities, equipping them with the tools to reclaim their voices, bodies, and futures.
A Call to Action: Shattering the Silence
From 7th to 11th March 2025, Inspire Her Ghana took to the streets, schools, and community centers of multiple towns and villages in the North East Region, far beyond the borders of Yagaba and Sooba.
Through dynamic awareness talks, they engaged students, traditional leaders, women’s groups, and youth in candid conversations about sexual violence, consent, menstrual dignity, and the insidious practice of “sex for pads”—where girls are coerced into transactional sex to access menstrual products. These sessions didn’t just inform; they sparked a collective resolve to end the exploitation that thrives in silence.
Arming Survivors with Strength and Skills
The heart of Silence No More lies in its commitment to survivor empowerment. From 26th to 30th March 2025, survivors and vulnerable girls across the two districts participated in intensive self-defense and emotional resilience training.
These sessions were more than physical—they were a declaration of defiance.
Girls learned to navigate unsafe spaces, protect themselves, and rebuild confidence shattered by trauma.
For many, it was the first time they felt in control of their own safety, a pivotal step toward healing and empowerment.
Crafting a Future: Livelihood Training for Independence
The campaign didn’t stop at empowerment—it paved a path to economic freedom. Between 31st March and 2nd May 2025, Inspire Her Ghana trained survivors, girls with disabilities, and adolescent mothers in the art of making reusable menstrual pads and intricate beadwork.
These hands-on skills are more than crafts; they’re tools for financial independence. By creating products, they can sell, these women and girls are breaking free from cycles of poverty and exploitation, building futures where they are the architects of their own destinies.
A Ripple Effect Across Communities
The impact of Silence No More reverberates far beyond the training rooms. Over 500 girls and women have found a safe space to share their stories, heal, and grow. Communities once silenced by stigma are now vocal advocates for change, with traditional leaders and youth standing alongside survivors.
The campaign has not only restored hope but also fostered a network of support that will continue to uplift the most marginalized voices in rural Ghana.
A Movement That Echoes
Inspire Her Ghana, with AWDF’s unwavering support, has turned pain into power in the North East Region. Silence No More is more than a campaign—it’s a revolution, proving that when survivors are given the tools to rise, they can change the world.
As these women and girls stitch pads, string beads, and stand tall, they’re weaving a future where no one is silenced, and every voice is heard.
