Daniel Tuffour, a final-year student of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), has been remanded for a second time by the court over his alleged involvement in the tragic death of his girlfriend, Joana Deladem Yabani.
At his latest court appearance, held on March 17, 2025, the prosecutor told the court that the case docket has been forwarded to the Attorney-General’s office for advice. As a result, the court granted the prosecution’s request to keep Tuffour in custody while the legal process continues.
The case has now been adjourned to April 1, 2025, when the Attorney-General’s advice is expected to guide the next steps.
The case has sent shockwaves throughout the KNUST community, with students, staff, and the public grappling with the painful loss of Joana Yabani, described by friends as a “kind and promising young woman.”
Joana’s lifeless body was found on February 27, 2025, behind the Central Laboratory on the university campus.
According to reports, CCTV footage captured a man, believed to be Tuffour, allegedly strangling her following a heated argument. He was arrested hours after the incident and first appeared in court on February 28, 2025, where he was initially remanded for two weeks.
As the case continues to unfold, the Attorney-General’s review of the docket will determine the next legal actions. Authorities say they are committed to a thorough and fair investigation to ensure justice is served.
“We are working closely with the relevant institutions to get to the bottom of this case. The public can be assured that justice will be pursued ,” an official close to the investigation said.
