Tano North NDC Executive Committee Disowns members

The Executive Committee of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Tano North Constituency has said that a recent press conference held by some members of the party does not represent the official position of the party in the area.

They have accused the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Tano North, Pius Opoku, of nepotism and are demanding his dismissal.

Some members of the party in Bomaa, at a press conference on Tuesday, July 15, accused the MCE of consistently appointing friends and family to key positions within the municipal assembly.

They enumerated the School Feeding Coordinator and the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) Coordinator among other positions.

In addition, they expressed their dissatisfaction with the current leadership of the party, claiming that the situation has created an environment of mistrust and discontent among party members.

The group, therefore, called on President John Mahama through the Minister of Local Government to sack the MCE with immediate effect and threatened to demonstrate against Mr Pius Opoku.

In a press statement on Thursday, July 17, Abudu Issifu, Deputy Constituency Secretary for Tano North, stated that the earlier press conference was not sanctioned by the Constituency Executive Committee and does not reflect the official position of the NDC in Tano North.

He noted that though the NDC respects the democratic rights of individuals and affiliate groups to express their opinions, it is misleading and disingenuous to present such views as the collective voice of the Tano North NDC.

The Deputy Secretary indicated that the party is a structured and disciplined political organisation, adding that all official communications are issued through recognised party channels and appointed spokespersons.

“We therefore call on the media, the general public, and our cherished party supporters to treat the contents of that press conference as the personal views of the organisers, not the official stance of the Tano North Constituency of the NDC,” Mr Issifu noted.

Mr Issifu, therefore, entreated the general public, especially residents of Tano North, members and leadership of the NDC to disregard the recent press conference.

He has assured that the current constituency executive committee remains focused and committed to its objective of winning the parliamentary seat for the first time since 1996.

“We will not be distracted by such unauthorised and misleading actions by some individuals and groups,” Mr Abudu Issifu emphasised.
