A group within the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) known as Citizen Eye Ghana has raised concerns over the ongoing Thank You Tour being undertaken by Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and the national executives of the party.
The tour, which began on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, at the party’s headquarters at Asylum Down, is aimed at thanking party supporters following the NPP’s defeat to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2024 general elections.
Operating under the theme “In All Things, Give Thanks to God” (1 Thessalonians 5:18), the initiative seeks to foster unity and gratitude across the party’s grassroots.
The tour spans all sixteen regions, with notable events including a three-day gathering in the Ashanti Region from April 29 to May 1, due to its political importance.
The programme is scheduled to conclude in the Central Region on June 4, 2025.
However, Citizen Eye Ghana, in a statement, criticized the tour, describing it as a political strategy to promote Dr. Bawumia rather than a genuine party activity.
“Let us be absolutely clear, the NPP currently has no presidential candidate. Yet, through the packaging of this tour, the party appears to be unofficially crowing Dr Bawumia as its chosen flagbearer, sidelining other aspirants who have contributed meaningfully to the party’s progress and vision.
The group further lamented the use of official party resources to advance what they view as an unfair advantage for Dr. Bawumia.
It is, therefore, calling for fairness and inclusivity within the party, urging the leadership to uphold democratic principles as the NPP charts its path forward.
“This conduct is deeply troubling, the use of the party’s letterhead, platforms, and organisational structure to amplify one aspirant’s visibility is inappropriate, unfair, and fundamentally undemocratic,” the statement added.
