In what has been described as an act of humility and kindness, the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, recently turned down a monetary gift from the Church of Pentecost (McKeown Temple).

Despite receiving widespread praise for his action, the background story behind the Asantehene’s decision provides deeper insight into the generous heart of the overlord of the Ashanti Kingdom.

According to emerging details, the leadership of the McKeown Temple of the Church of Pentecost paid a courtesy call on the Asantehene to express their gratitude to Otumfuo for renewing the lease of the church’s property in Asokwa at no cost.

In a gesture of appreciation, the church leadership presented an envelope containing an undisclosed amount of money to Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

However, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II declined the token and instructed the church to use the money to pay an offertory on his behalf instead.

“You should use it as an offertory for me,” Otumfuo Osei Tutu II is heard saying in a video recorded at the event, which took place at the Manhyia Palace on Friday, February 28, 2025.

The Asantehene’s gesture has earned him widespread praise on social media, with many users attributing Otumfuo’s actions to his magnanimity.
