The Ghana Armwrestling Federation is set to host its annual Independence Day Armwrestling Championship, dubbed “Battle for Independence,” on March 7, 2025, in Accra.

The event will showcase top Ghanaian armwrestlers competing against their counterparts from neighboring countries in an electrifying display of strength and skill. Athletes will battle across various weight categories for medals, prizes, and ultimate bragging rights.

This year’s edition will feature guest pullers from Nigeria, Benin, and Togo, adding an international flavor to the competition. Among the star-studded Ghanaian lineup is Africa’s top female armwrestler, Grace Minta, alongside other notable names such as Mabel Yeboah, Daniel Acquah, Henry Otoo, Prince Affum, Charles Osei Asibey Jnr, Afia Kumah, and Issah Kunya.

Nigeria will be strongly represented by Sarah Matthews, Blessing Ogunbure, Olubisi Oyewusi, Mausi Zanu, Aniedu Godwin, and Chinedu Isama. Meanwhile, Benin’s team includes African Games double gold medalist Marie Rose Laleye, Sébastien Kpaloko, and Marcel Vitchoedo. Togo’s contingent will be led by Amou Amouzou Honoré and Tchagbeleou Razak.

Ghana Armwrestling Federation President, Charles Osei Asibey, expressed high expectations for the event, stating, “This year’s Independence Armwrestling Challenge will be bigger and better than ever. With a strong lineup of both local and international athletes, we anticipate a thrilling competition that will highlight the best of West African Armwrestling.”

The “Battle for Independence” Armwrestling Championship will be broadcast live on TV, allowing fans across the country to experience the excitement firsthand.

As part of Ghana’s Independence Day celebrations, this tournament promises to be an unforgettable experience for sports enthusiasts and patriots alike.
