The GFA needs a serious overhaul – Papa Kwesi Ndoum

In the aftermath of the devastating incident at Nsoatre, which claimed the life of a devoted Asante Kotoko fan, Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom has added his voice to the chorus of calls for drastic changes at the Ghana Football Association (GFA).

Nduom’s frank assertion comes on the heels of the death of Asante Kotoko fan, Francis Yaw Frimpong on Sunday, February 2, 2025.

The staunch Kotoko fan was stabbed to death by an unidentified person in the Ghana Premier League matchday 19 clash, leading to a national uproar on the state of Ghana football.

The act of violence has led to the arrest of three individuals (which includes former MP, Ignatius Baffour-Awuah) in connection with the violent disturbances that erupted at the match centre.

In light of this, the founder of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP) and seasoned business consultant has urged the GFA to embark on a comprehensive overhaul, citing the need for a more transparent, accountable, and player-centric governing body.

Although the GFA has taken measures to find the cause of the matter while already charging involved parties, Nduom’s impassioned plea for reform stems from his concern that the current GFA leadership is perpetuating a system that prioritizes the interests of a privileged few over the well-being of the broader football community.

“The GFA needs a serious overhaul. A few people at the top feed on FIFA money and leave the clubs, referees and players hungry. What are we waiting for for ? More death bankruptcies and Black Stars losses?” he shared in a post on Facebook.

In the meantime, all Ghana Premier League fixtures have been put on hold this weekend, as the football fraternity grapples with the fallout from the Nsoatre incident.

The GFA’s efforts to find a lasting solution will be closely watched, as the nation demands a safer, more transparent, and more accountable football governing body.
