The Hegemon’s Last Hurrah

The Hegemon’s Last Hurrah

Let us begin, not with bombast, but with the solemn, professorial wisdom of a long-dead Russian strategist – Alexander Svechin, who warned: “The first duty of the art of politics with respect to strategy is to formulate the political goal of a war. Any goal should be strictly coordinated with the resources available to achieve it. The political goal should be appropriate to one’s war-waging capabilities. To meet this requirement, a politician must have a correct conception of the relations of friendly to hostile forces, which requires extremely mature and profound judgment; a knowledge of the history, politics, and statistics of both hostile states; and a certain amount of competence in basic military matters. The final statement of the goal would be made by the politician after an appropriate exchange of views with strategists, and it should help rather than hinder strategic decisions.

Try to read that again as your brain tries to process the latest folly of the US hegemon to project power, even one that is fast dwindling in real time. Then ask yourself how people could keep making the same mistakes over and over and expect to get it right.

In the steaming chaos of exploding centrifuges, mushrooming lies, and desperate White House briefings, this elemental truth, so succintly expounded by Svechin, so obvious a child could grasp it, has been spectacularly discarded by the complete imbecilic morons who run the US Empire.

The question that left every rational analyst scratching their head is: what political objective did the United States and Israel hope to achieve by launching their combined aggression against Iran? What strategic sense animates this newest descent into madness?

Apart from satiating some bloodlust, the simple, tragic answer is: None. Nada. Zero. Zilch.

It is so irrational and, for Israel, suicidal.

The world awoke last week to reports that a joint Israeli-American operation had bombed Iranian nuclear facilities across several provinces. What was the justification? “Iran is close to building a nuclear bomb,” they claimed. That’s the story. That’s the excuse. That’s the fig leaf.

But what is the strategic objective? American officials fumed, frothed at the mouth, waffled, and gave conflicting goals. Welcome to blind fury with no strategy. Narcissistic Trump rudely dismissed his own DNI, who had testified under oath that Iran was not pursuing

There’s just one problem that completely undermines the lies American officials parroted. The agency tasked with policing nuclear non-proliferation—the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) – says that Iran was not building nuclear weapons and has repeated this for over two decades.

To its credit, Iran is a signatory to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT). It allows inspectors, signs safeguard agreements, and—crucially—has issued a Fatwa, a religious decree, from its Supreme Leader declaring the construction of nuclear weapons as haram, forbidden, ungodly. This is the same Iran that refused to retaliate with chemical weapons during the brutal 1980s Iran–Iraq war, even after Saddam Hussein—armed and cheered on by the West—rained poison gas on Iranian troops and civilians.

These are public domain facts, yet they are not sufficient for the bloodlusting, warmongering Neocons, whose public pronouncements indicate they inhabit a lunatic universe.

What’s the political goal of going to war with Iran? What vital interest is being defended by violating international law(by breaking the same international law), launching strikes on nuclear sites (a war crime under the Geneva Convention), and dragging the world closer to a regional inferno with serious repercussions for the world economy and global environmental health?

Once more, the answer is grim in its emptiness. There is no coherent objective—just the smoldering fury of a collapsing empire and its ever-faithful belligerent satrap. The genocidal psychopaths in Occupied Palestine danced with joy, ditto their American counterparts. It matters little that many of them know nothing about Iran – watch how Tucker Carlson demolished US Senator Ted Cruz, who was touted as informed. The cretinous chihuahuas in the EU engaged in what they do best, issued hypocritical condemnation of Iran, and asked the country to return to negotiation. The hypocrisy of EUcrats is stunning. Iran never left the negotiating table. It was the West that left, shredded signed agreements, and prompted its attack dog in Jerusalem to assassinate Iranian negotiators, yet Europeans are parroting talking points from their American Overlords.

Let’s not deceive ourselves. Israel has never been a beacon of strategic patience or moral clarity. The crazed bloodlusting Zionist psychopaths are not Christians, most do not even believe in god, even though they believe that Jehovah promised them the land they occupy. It is ridiculous. The rabid Zionists are godless – they do not believe in any god, much the supposed son of a god.

Israel, like every colonial settlement in history, has always preferred blunt, unrestrained violence over diplomacy, bullets over dialogue. But at least in earlier decades, its warmongering had a certain logic, however twisted. This time, even that figment is gone. What is driving Netanyahu and his crazy ideological zealots? We shall never know.

As for the United States, we are dealing with an empire in terminal decline, flailing like a dying beast. It began a slow fall in Afghanistan, lost its teeth in Iraq, got sucker-punched in Syria, humiliated in Libya, and now finds itself knee-deep in a losing proxy war in Ukraine.

The American Century is over, but the Pentagon has yet to update its calendar. The Military Industrial Complex that Eisenhower warned the world against will not go to its grave silently.

And then enters our narcisstic buffon par excellence, Donald J. Trump. Yes, the same Trump who campaigned on ending “forever wars,” who called Bush’s Iraq debacle a disaster, who flirted with peace on the Korean Peninsula, who floated himself for a Nobel Peace Prize. Yes, that same Trump.

Now the one who called Biden’s war in Ukraine stupid has joined Israel’s reckless war on Iran, in the final months of an already scorched presidency. Why? Because he believes that war is the elixir of empire? Because Netanyahu whispered sweet nothings into his ears? Because the military-industrial complex wrote another campaign cheque? It could also be possible, as Elon Musk tweeted, that he is in the Epstein File, alleged to be used to blackmail people.

Or maybe it’s simply because America, like Israel, has lost the ability to distinguish policy from impulse. Strategy from spasm. Goal from Gore.

It makes no sense.
Let us raise a simple but damning question: What business does a permanent member of the UN Security Council have bombing a signatory of the NPT, while siding with Israel—a nation that has refused to sign the NPT, possesses an undeclared nuclear arsenal, and has never allowed a single international inspection?

Let that contradiction sink in. Try to ruminate on the sickening hypocrisy. And this in 2025!

As always, obedient stenographers to imperial power, Western media dutifully echo this psychosis. The same talking heads that sold us weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, Gaddafi’s Viagra-fueled army, and Assad’s chemical weapons hoaxes are now screaming: “Iran must be stopped!”, “The Ayatollah must go!

Stopped from what? Following international law? Upholding treaties? Not building nuclear bombs?

Why is no one asking who appointed the sad parade of uncultured, uneducated, and genocidal Western leaders the World’s Gendarme? What makes it impossible for Westerners to live and let live, and stop whining like little kids when others choose their paths? Apart from being very offensive, it is nauseating to hear Western leaders disturbing our ears with: Assad Must Go. Gaddafi Must Go. Iran cannot have nuclear weapons? Given its wretched history of violent intrusion into other people’s space, the West is the least qualified to give a lecture. Any sane and intelligent leader in the Global South would seek to build any weapon, including nuclear, to protect their country from duplicitous, predatory Westerners who wish no one any good.

Let us now talk tactics—not that Washington understands the concept.

Israel, drunk on the myth of its invincibility, imagines that quick surgical strikes and drone assassinations will frighten Iran into submission. America, still high from watching “Top Gun” reruns, believes that air superiority and shock-and-awe can produce victory without boots on the ground.

Anyone with brains should know that Iran is not Iraq, Libya, or Syria.

It is a nation of 88 million with a long memory, rugged geography, self-reliance, and perhaps most terrifying—a deep, disciplined capacity for asymmetrical warfare. Iran will not fight like the West. It does not have to. It will bleed them slowly—through proxies, militias, cyberattacks, global oil disruptions, and relentless attrition.

No Israeli city is far enough, no American base remote enough, no oil tanker safe. Iran has already turned Lebanon and Iraq into a strategic depth. Its allies are embedded in Yemen, Bahrain, and Gaza. And do the strategists in the US think that Iran will not have sleeper cells in the homeland waiting for instruction? And the longer the war drags on, the more the global South will rally to Tehran, not out of love, but out of sheer disgust for Western double standards.

This war—this illegal, immoral, incoherent war—will not end well for anyone. But it will end worse for the West.

The United States is already overstretched, its military recruitment at historic lows, its budget deficit ballooning, its debt staggering, and its global image shredded by its genocidal support for Israel in Gaza and its NATO aggression in Ukraine.

The American public, exhausted and cynical, has no appetite for another war, especially one based on lies. Israel, for its part, is a small country with limited manpower, little strategic depth, and increasingly isolated even in the Western bloc. Its recent genocidal behavior in Gaza has alienated even traditional supporters.

And Iran? Iran will emerge battered, yes, but proud, Defiant, standing tall in the eyes of a world increasingly tired of Western lectures and imperial tantrums.

The great irony is that by lashing out at Iran without a political objective, the United States and Israel are not just breaking international law. They are accelerating their decline.

This war, like the one in Ukraine, like the one in Gaza, is not about security or peace. It is about rage. History teaches that empires that rage unthinkingly soon die.

Alexander Svechin must be turning in his grave as he watches this sad funeral of strategy in the West.

He spoke of the sacred duty to align military means with political ends. He believed war must serve diplomacy, not destroy it. He argued that strategy is not violence for its own sake, but the rational pursuit of policy goals.

By Svechin’s standard—and by any moral compass—the American–Israeli war on Iran is not a strategy. It is an act of political seppuku. A last, desperate, irrational act of a hegemon that no longer knows what it wants, only what it fears.

And in the end, that may be the most terrifying truth of all. Because a superpower that fears its irrelevance is far more dangerous than one that fights for principle, it is blind. It is vengeful. And it is doomed.

The Russians and the Chinese will pay close attention as Iran’s strategic partners.

So let the war hawks screech. Let the missiles fly. Let the paid pundits babble. The rest of us—those who still have eyes to see—know what this is. It is not a strategy. It is not self-defense.

It is a funeral for the American Empire. With its humiliation in Afghanistan, Yemen, and now Iran, the Hegemon has lost its military shine.
