The National Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Richard Ahiagbah, has declared that the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) will lose the parliamentary contest in Ablekuma North.
Ahiagbah accused the Electoral Commission (EC) of attempting to subvert the will of the people with its decision to rerun polls in 19 polling stations within the constituency.
In a social media post on Thursday, July 10, he urged voters in the affected polling stations to rally behind the NPP’s parliamentary candidate, Nana Akua Owusu Afriyie, to uphold the original mandate.
“The NDC’s effort in Ablekuma North must end in defeat. It’s an exercise aimed at subverting the will of the people. The will of the people will not be overturned.
“I wish Hon. Akua Afriyie and Ablekuma North well. Vote your conscience,” he wrote.
Meanwhile, Nana Akua Afriyie has expressed confidence in retaining the seat for the party in the rerun scheduled for Friday, July 11.
Although the NPP leadership has resolved to boycott the rerun, Afriyie has insisted on contesting, arguing that she won the original election and intends to secure her mandate.
“I want to put on record that darkness can never cover light. I am the light. I am the truth and the light. I walk with the gracious God. You can never cheat me, and the Lord is going to speak tomorrow as I contest,” she told the media on Thursday.
She further declared, “I want everybody in Ablekuma North to hear me and hear my voice. I am contesting this election, and I am coming out victorious because I won that election, and God will ensure that justice prevails.”
Afriyie also cited figures from the initial polls, claiming she garnered 34,613 votes against her opponent’s 34,199.
She noted that results had been collated from 278 polling stations, leaving only three unresolved before the EC announced a rerun.
