The leadership that John Mahama has shown in less than eight months since taking office is not only the greatest threat to the opposition NPP, but it is also a remarkable performance that the NPP was unable to accomplish in eight years, which will keep the NPP in opposition for decades. Since the NPP has yet to persuade Ghanaians that they are not thieves and criminals, I must actually make it obvious to the split NPP that Ghana would remain a one-party system under the NDC for many years.
A competent leader possesses a number of essential traits that promote productive teamwork and organizational success. “Kɛji onufu ko emɔ bo shikome lɛ, kɛ́ ona titiamoitoi lɛ, obaajo foi” means “If a snake has bitten you before, when you see a worm, you’ll run away,” according to a saying among the Gàs, who live in Ghana’s Greater Accra Region. Despite Mahama’s best governance before losing the 2016 elections, it seems that bitter experience transformed him to be a better leader today.
The former president, who was judged to be corrupt and incompetent, formulated strategic goals, focused on important tactics, and expressed a clear vision while in opposition to encourage and inspire others to work toward his covert goals. In addition to listening to Ghanaians, Mahama crafted a government that the NPP, in spite of all its accusations and claims of improving Ghanaians’ lives and turning Ghana into the Dubai of Africa, couldn’t achieve. The NPP brought Ghana to its knees.
I am aware that Ghanaians are difficult people and that the majority of them are easily influenced by misleading information and media manipulation. However, it was very easy for them to recognize the NPP’s appalling eight years in power and to decide to remove it. The unsettling problem that perplexes Ghanaians now is that the NDC remained disciplined during their eight years in opposition. However, many NPP politicians and members have had mental health issues since they lost the 2024 election.
The opposition NPP is continuously sabotaging the current government’s efforts, rather than attempting to convince Ghanaians that they are ready to lead the country again if given the opportunity. Attempts to rectify it are met with resistance from the NPP. Kevin Taylor is a man who loves Ghana and wants to educate the populace so they will vote for a better government. However, despite his support from many Ghanaians and his goals, he is deemed a terrible person and hated by many NPP politicians.
A child who despises their parents’ guidance and discipline will not grow up to be a respectable member of society. In Ghanaian politics today, the NPP is precisely that. Since I joined the columnists for ModernGhana news, I’ve come to the realization that the NPP went to the opposition because they depended on articles that failed to address their immoralities. Surprisingly, they continue to rely on the same articles that will keep them in opposition for the next twenty years.
The NPP must realize that their sabotage efforts, false accusations, and criticism are not what will overthrow the current administration. They are wasting their time since the NDC will remain in power for many years because of the solid foundation Mahama has established, which the majority of Ghanaians are happy with. Ghanaians are happy with the NDC because of the fall of prices of commodities, and most importantly, Mahama’s pledge to fight corruption is going on.
Empathetic leaders foster a collaborative environment; competent leaders act quickly on well-informed decisions, accept accountability for results, and foster a culture of ownership within the team. These attributes have played a part in Mahama’s effective leadership style, which has had a big influence on Ghana. Ghanaians are too intelligent to hand over power to a political party that takes “review as cancellation and fight against corruption as persecution.”
