A Senior Presidential Advisor and Special Aide to President John Dramani Mahama, Joyce Bawah Mogtari, says there is a growing sense of confidence in Ghana’s economy.
According to the NDC stalwart, the change Ghanaians voted for in the 2024 general elections is beginning to yield results in their daily lives.
In a social media post on Tuesday, May 13, Bawah Mogtari noted that recent calls by the Ghana Union of Traders’ Associations (GUTA) for a reduction in prices to reflect gains in the cedi’s value is proof that government policies are working.
“A truly heartwarming call by my colleagues from GUTA asking for a reduction in the prices of goods and services symbolizes a new milestone for Ghana. It means the prudent fiscal discipline and focus on key priorities are beginning to take shape.
“The change we voted for is already showing results. There is renewed optimism and hope in the Ghanaian economy,” she wrote on X.
In a statement dated May 11, GUTA urged its members to pass on the gains of the stronger currency to consumers.
“The Ghana Union of Traders’ Associations (GUTA) wishes to appeal to the trading community to adjust prices of goods and services to share the significant gains made by the appreciation of the cedi against the major trading currencies and bring some relief to the consuming public,” the statement signed by GUTA President Dr. Joseph Obeng read.
This came after a call by Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, who assured Ghanaians that the recent appreciation of the local currency is sustainable and that citizens must begin to benefit from it.
