Leading member of the Movement for Change, Solomon Owusu, has disclosed that some individuals within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) orchestrated efforts to collapse his business.

He revealed that during the NPP’s time in power, his bus transport business came under attack, with some individuals filing applications at the High Court to block him from acquiring vehicles necessary to operate.

The communications team member of the Movement for Change further revealed that he lost about $4 million due to what he described as persistent attacks on his business by elements within the NPP.

Speaking on Accra-based TV3 this past week, Owusu stated that he has no intention of returning to the NPP, citing threats to his life and business during their time in government.

“During their time, I lost close to $4 million. As a young man growing up in business, they wanted to kill me. The only reason I survived was that I was doing business with my wife. I went to the High Court and told them where I had parked the buses. Agyei-Baffour and his people didn’t go for the buses with the court order but instead filed a contempt application against me. One fine afternoon, I went to court with my wife, and the judge said he had ruled that I was in contempt of court and had to pay $30,000 on the spot or go to Nsawam prison,” he recounted.

He further added, “All this happened last year [2024]. So I vowed to deal with them. We went through the motions, and they lost the case. In June 2024, I won the case, and my buses were to be released to me. However, every time I was ready to retrieve my buses, Baffoe and his people would file frivolous applications at the High Court. From there, they would move to the Appeals Court. It only stopped after there was a change of government.”

Following these experiences, Owusu joined Alan Kyerematen to form the Movement for Change political group after disassociating themselves from the NPP during the 2024 general elections.
