Correspondence from the Eastern Region

A tragic accident involving three trucks occurred at dawn on Monday, May 12, 2025, at Akyem Asafo in the Eastern Region of Ghana, along the Kumasi to Accra highway. The incident claimed the lives of three individuals and left two others injured.

According to eyewitnesses, a DAF trailer with registration number 6294-11, loaded with bags of cocoa, had broken down in the middle of the road.

Two other trucks—a Scania with registration number GS 6429-11 and a Howo tipper truck with an unconfirmed registration number—crashed into the stationary trailer while heading towards Accra.

The impact resulted in the instant death of the Scania truck’s driver and two female passengers, believed to be traders.

Emergency response teams from the Bunso Command of the Ghana National Fire Service, the Suhum Police MTTD, and the Ghana National Ambulance Service were quickly dispatched to the scene.

The bodies of the deceased have been transported to the Suhum Government Hospital morgue, while the injured are currently receiving treatment at the same facility.

Police have launched an investigation into the cause of the accident.
