The Taviefe Traditional Council in the Ho Municipality of the Volta Region is in mourning following the passing of Togbe Amoni VII, Chief of Taviefe Aviefe and Left Wing Chief of the Taviefe Traditional Area.
The announcement was formally made by Togbe Klimadzafia IV, Mankrado (Dutorfia) of Taviefe Aviefe, on Monday, July 7, 2025, in accordance with Ewe custom.
Togbe Amoni VII ascended to the stool in 1961, serving for more than six decades. Despite occasional disputes surrounding his reign, he was gazetted and officially recognized as the legitimate Chief of Taviefe Aviefe and the Left Wing Chief of the Taviefe Traditional Council.
The official announcement was made to inform members of the Traditional Council, opinion leaders, and the general public of the chief’s passing. Togbe Klimadzafia described the late chief as a “loving father” and underscored the need for full observance of traditional customs and rites during this period of mourning.
Afenumetsitsie Kofi Tekpor, Clan Head of the Awaxadome Royal Clan, stated that the funeral rites have not yet commenced. He noted that the family and elders will convene at a later date to determine the schedule for the burial and final funeral ceremonies. He also expressed confidence that the legacy of Togbe Amoni VII would continue to inspire local leadership until a new chief is enstooled.
In the interim, Togbe Klimadzafia IV, the Mankrado (Dutorfia), will oversee the affairs of the community until the kingmakers select and install a new chief.
Togbe Golo II urged unity and peace throughout the funeral process and beyond, calling on all natives of Taviefe to honour the community’s traditions. He emphasized the importance of historical preservation and cautioned against attempts to alter or distort the legacy of the past.
The brief but solemn announcement ceremony was attended by chiefs, elders, queen mothers, and citizens from all eight communities within the Taviefe Traditional Council, as well as extended families from Tanyigbe.
Mama Akua Broni II, Paramount Queen of Taviefe, graced the occasion with her sub-queens, showing solidarity with the people of Taviefe Aviefe.
The passing of Togbe Amoni VII brings to a close a long and storied reign. His leadership and contributions to the development of Taviefe Aviefe will be remembered for generations.
