The news that Liverpool fans all dreaded was announced on Monday, as Trent Alexander-Arnold’s his move from his boyhood club after spending 20 years at Anfield.

Whilst there has been no official confirmation on his next, journalist Fabrizio Romano broke the news of his move to Real Madrid including his famous line “here we go”.

The BBC later broke the news that Madrid were in talks to finalise the deal.

Whilst there is still time for Alexander-Arnold to perform a U-turn, it appears that the right-back is going to be on the move to Madrid this summer.

This move has angered a lot of Liverpool fans, with a local lad allowing their contract to run down and move on a free transfer.

There is bound to be a lot of hurt, but it would be remiss to not look back over his time at the club and all the success he has had.

In 352 appearances across all competitions, he has recorded 23 goals and 92 assists. He also has the record for the most assists for a defender in the history of the Premier League, with 64 at time of writing.

Since making his first team debut for the club, Alexander-Arnold has won all there is to win with a Champions League, FA Cup, two League Cups and two Premier League titles sending his trohohy count to eight with the Merseyside side.

3Sports take a look at Alexander-Arnold’s top five moments in a Liverpool shirt.

1. Trent Arnold silencing the Etihad Satdium

Liver pool footballer Trent Alexander-Alnord silenced the Etihad Stadium to earn a point in the 1-1 heavyweight clash between Manchester City and Liverpool FC yesterday.

Match day 13 of the English Premier League held significant importance for the defending champions of the league, Manchester City as they sought to solidify their first-place position in this year’s edition of the English Premier League and better their head-to-head records against the Merseyside giants.

The defending champions started the match on the front foot, pressurizing their opponents and dominating the game in terms of possession and chance creation action.

Their efforts eventually paid off as they were rewarded with a goal in the 27th minute of the game from their main marksman, Erling Haaland.
After the recess, Manchester City started from where they left off with the hopes of doubling their lead, but their aspirations were shattered as they were punished by a brilliant Trent Alexander Arnold strike to level the game.

The hardwork paid off in the 80th minute when Mohammed Salah pulled the ball back to Arnold on the edge of the box, with the latter beating Ederson with a low fine strike into the bottom left hand corner of the net to ensure parity.

2. His Premier League titles with Liverpool.(2019/20 and 2024/25)

Liverpool had last won the Premier League in 1990 and a year after their historic storm in Europe, the Merseyside giant won their first EPL title since 1990 after clinching 99 points. In the season, the fullback was instrumental for the Reds, scoring four goals and assisting 13 times.

In the 2024/25 season, his last with his boyhood club, the Englishman was pivotal for the six-time Champions League winners as they won their record-equaling 20th Premier League title, putting them level with bitter rivals Manchester United. Despite contractual issues, the seasoned fullback delivered an all-around performance throughout the season, scoring three goals and assisting nine times.

3. Winning Liverpool’s sixth champions league

Trent Alexander-Arnold played a pivotal role in Liverpool’s 2018/19 Champions League campaign, contributing significantly in both defense and attack. He recorded  four assists in 11 games.

One of his most memorable moments came in the semifinal against Barcelona, where his quick-thinking corner kick helped spark a remarkable comeback.

After Barcelona’s 3-0 win in the first leg, Liverpool staged an incredible turnaround at Anfield, ultimately overturning the deficit to advance to the final.

4. His Anfield performance against Barcelona in the UCL semis

Liverpool went into the second leg of their 2018/19 Champions League final against Barcelona 3-0 down.

This is after their heavy defeat in the Nou Camp. With Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino ruled out of the game, many felt that the tie was over, despite the scoreline in Spain not doing the team justice.

However, Liverpool unleased the spirit of Istanbul at Anfield, with a Divock Origi goal and a Georginio Wijnaldum double bringing the tie level. Their work was not done here.

Liverpool won a corner in the 79th minute and Alexander-Arnold caught Barcelona asleep.

His corner found he foot of the Belgian to the complete disbelief of the Catalan side. Klopp’s side manage to hold on and advance to the final.

Against Tottenham Hotspur in Madrid of all places, Liverpool won the game 2-0 and Alexander-Arnold was a European champion.

Looking back, given the quality of the Barcelona team and the home atmosphere, the semi final second leg felt more like the final and his quick thinking will always be remembered.

5. Introduction himself in Germany

Prior to the start of the 2017/18 season, Nathaniel Clyne was expected to start for Liverpool in the right back spot. Alexander-Arnold was an afterthought.

However, injury to Clyne meant that Alexander-Arnold was given the chance to start in a Champions League qualifier against 1899 Hoffenheim in Germany. Liverpool were awarded a free kick in the 35th minute. Stood centrally, the youngster stepped up and hit a sublime effort into the back of the net, curling overthe wall and into the bottom right corner.

Much to the misfortune of Clyne, Alexander-Arnold did not look back. This was a game that firmly put his name on the footballing map.

As Alexander-Arnold bids farewell to Liverpool, fans will cherish the memories of his incredible journey with the Reds.

His dedication, skill, and passion will forever be etched in the annals of Liverpool’s history.

While his departure may be bittersweet, his legacy will continue to inspire future generations of Reds.
