Two students from the University for Development Studies (UDS), Abdul Wahab Musah and Hamza Mariam, have won a cash prize of GH¢ 10,000 after emerging victorious in an entrepreneurship pitch competition held at the University of Ghana.

Competing under their business brand, Heritage Food Processing Company, Abdul and Hamza outperformed students from various universities, including the University of Ghana, the University of Cape Coast, and other institutions. Their outstanding business pitch secured them first place, earning them the coveted cash prize.

The competition, organized by PAMEPI Women in Tech Ghana in collaboration with RWTH Aachen University, was part of the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center Pitching Competition.

It took place during the third edition of the Founders’ Boot Camp (Stage 2, Ghana), held at the University of Ghana on March 13–14, 2025.

The two-day capacity-building workshop, themed “Business Ideas and Technology Innovation Pitching Competition,” aimed to empower young entrepreneurs with skills in business development and technology-driven innovation.

Expressing their excitement, Abdul Wahab Musah and Hamza Mariam described their victory as a dream come true.

They emphasized that the GH¢10,000 prize money would significantly contribute to the growth of their business.

“I feel so proud of this achievement. It is truly a dream come true, and we urge Ghanaians to watch out for us and patronize our products as we aim to introduce more food items into the market,” said Abdul Wahab Musah.

Alberta Ekem Ferguson, Programme Coordinator of PAMEPI Women in Tech Ghana, expressed her excitement, particularly about the inclusion of a female entrepreneur among the winners.

Philipp Tsekos, Startup Coach at RWTH Aachen University, highlighted that the initiative seeks to support Ghanaian entrepreneurs by providing mentorship, coaching, and financial assistance to help them build sustainable businesses.

“An academic selection committee from RWTH Aachen University and PAMEPI Women in Tech Ghana has awarded a grant of GH¢ 10,000 to Heritage Food Processing Company.

“We wish you great success in the further development of your business idea. We hope you continue to engage in international academic exchange and remain connected with RWTH Aachen University beyond the duration of this grant,” he stated.

The second-place position was awarded to Team CocoCycle Ghana, a startup focused on recycling coconut products. They received a cash prize of GH¢ 5,000.

BigFarms Foods secured third place, earning GH¢ 2,500 for their business initiative.
