Member of Parliament for Kumawu, Hon. Ernest Yaw Anim, has issued a stern condemnation following a violent altercation between two male teachers at a school in Pepease, describing the conduct as “highly unacceptable, unprofessional, and a disgrace to the teaching profession.”
The incident, reportedly sparked by a personal dispute over a female colleague, occurred within school premises, drawing public outrage and concern about teacher conduct and student safety. In a statement released from his office, the MP expressed deep disappointment over the behavior of the teachers involved.
“I have taken note of the disturbing incident that occurred at a school in Pepease, where two male teachers were involved in a physical altercation over a female colleague.
“I wish to state, unequivocally, that such behavior is highly unacceptable, unprofessional, and a disgrace to the teaching profession,” Hon. Anim stated.
He emphasized that teachers are role models and custodians of discipline and should exhibit composure and moral leadership, particularly in environments where children look up to them for guidance.
“Two teachers allowed a personal disagreement to degenerate into violence on school premises. This is deeply disappointing and reflects a gross lack of self-control,” he added.
Hon. Anim further expressed concern about the psychological impact the incident may have had on pupils, stressing that the fight tarnished the dignity of the institution and diminished the respect accorded to educators.
“This shameful episode not only brings disrepute to the school and the wider educational community but also undermines the authority and respect that teachers are meant to embody.”
He called on the Ghana Education Service (GES) to immediately probe the matter and ensure the necessary disciplinary actions are taken to deter future occurrences.
“I therefore call on the Ghana Education Service (GES) to launch an immediate investigation into the matter and apply appropriate sanctions where necessary.”
The MP also appealed to the school’s authorities to prioritize the emotional well-being of affected students by offering them counseling support.
“I also urge the school’s administration to offer psychological support and counseling to students who may have been traumatized by the incident, ensuring that their emotional and mental well-being is not neglected.”
Hon. Anim concluded with a call to all education stakeholders to safeguard professionalism within the teaching fraternity and restore public confidence in the profession.
“We must work together to uphold professionalism and order within our schools. Our educators must be shining examples, individuals our children can look up to, not fear or question,” he stressed.
