It was a moment of nostalgic memories at the University of Ghana’s Great Hall when the School of Pharmacy held an award ceremony to posthumously honor Nana Dr. Michael Agyekum Addo for his remarkable contributions to the Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm D) program.

The meritorious award celebrated the late pharmacy enthusiast’s immense legacy at the University of Ghana School of Pharmacy.

Affectionately known as KAMA in pharmaceutical circles, Nana Dr. Michael Agyekum Addo was a pivotal figure not only in the pharmacy business sector but also in academia, where his dedicated efforts contributed significantly to the development of the Pharm D program at the University of Ghana.

A special delegation from the bereaved family, including Dr. Mrs. Nana Achiaa Ankrah, Mr. Akwesi Addo Agyekum, Mrs. Maame Yaa Asomani, and Dr. Papa Yaw Agyekum Addo, received the award on behalf of their beloved patriarch.

In her remarks, Dr. Mrs. Nana Achiaa Ankrah, daughter of the honoree and a distinguished pharmacist and agro-food expert serving as the CEO of Arise Foods Limited, expressed her gratitude for the recognition.

“On behalf of the family of Nana Dr. Michael Agyekum Addo, under the leadership of my big brother, Dr. Kofi Addo-Agyekum, CEO of Kofikrom Pharmacy, I extend our heartfelt gratitude to the University of Ghana School of Pharmacy for this remarkable honor. It is a privilege to accept this award in his memory,” she emphasized.

She noted that Nana Dr. Agyekum Addo was deeply committed to education and the advancement of pharmacy in Ghana. He strongly believed in mentoring and empowering future pharmacists, including her brother, Dr. Kofi Addo Agyekum; her sister, Pharm Ama Addo Agyekum Kegey; herself, also a Doctor of Pharmacy; and her nephew, Dr. Papa Yaw Agyekum Addo, among others. His dedication helped shape a generation of professionals committed to excellence and service.

Dr. Nana Achiaa Ankrah, who also serves as a nutrition expert at Arise Foods Limited, reiterated that her late father’s passion for knowledge acquisition, discipline, and innovation continues to inspire many.

“This recognition bestowed upon Nana Dr. Michael Agyekum Addo is a true reflection of his lifelong mission, and the entire family is grateful for this meaningful tribute,” she added.

She urged all pharmacists to honor his legacy by embracing his vision and upholding the values he cherished in the profession.

Dr. Nana Achiaa Ankrah also took the opportunity to thank all those who have offered condolences to the family since the passing of Nana Dr. Michael Agyekum Addo, expressing appreciation for their thoughtful messages and prayers.
