File photo of an unknown gunman
A woman and her four children, including a toddler, have been killed at Benguri, a suburb of the Binduri District in the Upper East Region.
The incident occurred on April 19, 2025, around 8 pm when the family were in their residence.
According to a report on citinewsroom.com, the gunmen stormed the house, set it ablaze, and shot the family of five dead.
Even though the incident occurred during curfew hours, security agencies stationed in the area failed to avert the situation, the report said.
This tragic event is reportedly linked to the Bawku conflict, which has spread to that area.
The Binduri District is currently under a dusk to dawn curfew, with a ban on motor and tricycle riding following recent killings in the area.
In recent weeks, there have been tensions at Binduri, with numerous killings of innocent persons, including a U-turn situation where police personnel and their families have been attacked, all linked to the ongoing Bawku conflict.
The most recent attack of police officers has raised concerns and questions on the rationale behind the unidentified gunmen targeting security personnel, another situation that threatens the security system of the country.
In the bid to curb the rate of deaths among the officers, the Ghana Police Service has issued an urgent directive, banning the movement of police personnel and their families to Bawku and its surrounding areas in the Upper East Region.
