The Union of Professional Nurses and Midwives, Ghana (UPNMG), is taking a significant step toward addressing one of the most urgent challenges facing its members—access to decent and affordable housing.
This follows a high-level meeting in Accra between UPNMG, led by its National President, Mr. Maxwell Oduro Yeboah, and the Chief Executive Officer of the National Homeownership Fund. The meeting focused on exploring strategic financing models to facilitate the construction of affordable housing units specifically designed for nurses and midwives across the country.
Described by both parties as “fruitful and forward-looking,” the discussions signaled a strong mutual commitment to delivering sustainable housing solutions for healthcare professionals. The Union is hopeful that a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) will be signed in the coming weeks to officially launch the construction phase of the initiative.
This ambitious housing project forms part of UPNMG’s broader agenda to enhance the welfare of its members, with a focus on long-term financial security and improved living conditions.
At a time when rental costs continue to rise and economic pressures weigh heavily on health workers, the Union views this partnership as a timely and potentially transformative initiative.
The next few weeks will be pivotal as both parties work toward finalising the agreement. If successful, this collaboration could serve as a powerful example of how professional unions in Ghana can drive meaningful, lasting change for their members.
