Justice Kweku T. Ackaah-Boafo is a Supreme Court nominee
The Appointments Committee of Parliament has indefinitely suspended the vetting of one of the justices nominated to the Supreme Court by President John Dramani Mahama, following a petition submitted against the nominee.
According to the report, the nominee, Court of Appeal Justice Kweku T. Ackaah-Boafo, is facing serious allegations brought by a petitioner, accusing him of judicial bias and misconduct.
The petitioner, international human rights activist Anthony Kwabenya Rau, accused Justice Ackaah-Boafo of unprofessional conduct during previous court proceedings, particularly displaying extreme bias and using inappropriate language, according to Accra-based myjoyonline.com.
Kwabenya Rau further cited an incident at the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) courts to support his claims.
In his petition, he alleged that the judge ‘insulted and attacked’ him during a hearing, referring to him as a ‘so-called ‘Messiah’ international Human Rights Activist’ and questioning his legal right to represent clients in Ghana.
Furthermore, he claimed that the judge’s official written judgment in the case contained personal insults, which Rau interprets as clear evidence of bias and corruption.
“Arrogant, biased, power-drunk, an abuser of human rights (sic) and supportive of corruption,” Rau is quoted as saying by myjoyonline.com.
The report also claimed that Rau, the petitioner, predicted dire consequences should Justice Ackah-Blay be approved by the Appointments Committee, issuing a strong warning against such a decision.
“For me, he will be a disaster at the Supreme Court if approved (sic) for the international and national interest of the republic. These are my reasons to petition the vetting committee not to approve this particular judge,” another quote attributed to him added.
As a result of the development, the petition has been referred to the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, for further action.
