Volta NPP grassroots declare support for Bryan Acheampong as unifying force ahead of 2028

In a bold move that could reshape the internal politics of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), grassroots leaders in the Volta Region have declared their unwavering support for Bryan Acheampong, hailing him as the most grounded and unifying figure capable of reconnecting party leadership with its base.

Speaking at a press briefing in Ho, Thelma Christable Adzimah, Women’s Organiser for the Ho Central Constituency, read a statement on behalf of a coalition of Electoral Area Coordinators, polling station executives, constituency organisers, and other grassroots operatives. The group described their decision as a “clarion call to rebuild the soul of the NPP.”

“We are not just endorsing a candidate; we are rallying behind a vision — a vision that prioritises inclusion, party unity, and grassroots empowerment,” Adzimah stated. “Hon. Bryan Acheampong embodies this vision. He listens. He engages. He delivers.”

The group praised Acheampong for his practical, people-centred leadership, highlighting his direct interventions in communities across Ghana, particularly in agriculture, education, and infrastructure. They cited borehole projects, distribution of farm inputs, educational support, and healthcare investments as examples of a leader who not only campaigns at the grassroots level but lives and works among the people.

“This is a man who understands that the party’s strength does not lie in Accra boardrooms, but in polling stations, electoral areas, and among hardworking foot soldiers who keep the party’s flame alive,” the group emphasised.

In what appeared to be a veiled critique of recent elite-driven endorsements, the coalition dismissed the idea that backing from former appointees or political heavyweights equates to grassroots legitimacy.

“Let no one confuse political visibility with grassroots acceptability,” Adzimah asserted. “True legitimacy comes from those who mobilise at dawn, knock on doors, and keep the party running in all corners of the country.”

The group also appealed for calm as the NPP prepares for its internal primaries, urging national executives and presidential hopefuls to place party unity above personal ambition.

“At a time when our party must be consolidating, we are seeing fragmentation. Bryan Acheampong is the only candidate who can bridge that divide. He brings calm, strategic thinking and unwavering loyalty to party structures,” they declared.

Political analysts see the endorsement as significant, particularly because it originates from the Volta Region — traditionally a challenging political terrain for the NPP. That grassroots operatives in the region are this organised and vocal around a single candidate may signal a broader shift within the party.

Currently serving as the Minister for Food and Agriculture, Hon. Bryan Acheampong has earned a reputation as a pragmatic and forward-looking leader. His steady rise within the party is being closely monitored by both supporters and rivals, especially as he gains momentum among the NPP’s base.

Concluding their statement, the group reiterated their belief that the party’s future must be shaped from the bottom up — and that Acheampong represents that grassroots-driven future.

“The grassroots are not just watching — we are organising. And we are making our voice clear. The man who has walked with us, worked with us, and never abandoned us is the man we will walk with to victory. That man is Hon. Bryan Acheampong.”
