The Volta Regional Minister, Hon. James Gunu, has inaugurated three mechanized boreholes at Awudome Senior High School, Sokode Senior High Technical School, and Ho Technical Institute, marking the beginning of Phase 1 of his flagship initiative, the “Water for All” project.
The project, which aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 6, is aimed at ensuring universal access to clean and safe water across the region, starting with educational institutions and extending to surrounding communities.
Hon. Gunu underscored the vital role of clean water in promoting public health, boosting student academic performance, and fostering overall community development. Reaffirming his commitment to the cause, he declared: “We are just getting started. Every school and community in the Volta Region deserves this basic right, and I will not rest until we achieve universal access.”
He further indicated that future phases of the project would focus on underserved areas in both rural and urban communities.
Local leaders, school authorities, and students expressed their appreciation for the intervention, calling it timely and transformative. The Minister, in turn, urged the beneficiary communities to take responsibility for maintaining the facilities to ensure their long-term sustainability.
The “Water for All” initiative forms part of the Regional Minister’s broader vision to enhance social services and improve the overall quality of life for residents of the Volta Region. With the commissioning of the boreholes, the region takes a significant step forward in achieving water accessibility for all.
