Minority Leader and Member of Parliament for Effutu, Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin
The Minority Leader and Member of Parliament for Effutu, Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin, became emotional during an interview with Ghanaian broadcaster Kafui Dey as he recalled the heartbreaking loss of his only sister.
Afenyo-Markin, who shared memories of his early years, revealed that his sister fell ill while they were living with their grandmother, who was responsible for their care.
He struggled to contain his emotions as he recounted the painful experience.
“Eventually, my sister became unwell, and her condition deteriorated, but Grandma refused to take her to the hospital, she kept praying instead. Then, one day, my sister could no longer walk; she was crawling. She crawled and fell on her side, which alarmed Grandma. That very night, she carried her to a nearby clinic across the street,” he narrated.
“We stayed there the whole night, and the next morning… she was my only sister. Then they told us she was dead. They tied her up and wrapped her,” he said, shedding tears as he relived the painful memory.
Afenyo-Markin further revealed that after his sister’s passing, he was sent to live with his grandfather, who took him along on hunting trips.
